First of all I want to say I'm here right now on a Wednesday at 7 pm. I hope the manager on duty is NOT the general manager. He is very rude. He screamed at the bartender (who is very attentive and sweet, the short blonde with a bunch of tattoos) right in front of me. I felt very uncomfortable and when I asked if he was the manager he ignored me for a good 3 minutes and continued yelling at his bartender. I drive all the way from downtown Chicago to come to this place. I come here to relax, not hear him yell at a great bartender right in front of the clientele. He's tall with facial hair. Because of you I don't want to come back!

The burgers they grill up back in the beer-garden smelled magnificent, but we'd already eaten. The crowd seems to be a little bro-ey, but if you can get past that, you'll appreciate that the beer is cold and the mixed drinks are strong. The best part of the night (for me) was watching the old dudes who had obviously been golfing at the Grand Geneva earlier that day hitting on young ladies who were old enough to be their daughters... hilarious!

Great food, the cheese curds are awesome!

I really like it in here..I like the staff, the music, the crazy drunk kids that wear wierd clothes and fall down trying to hump each other while dancing..reminds me of my "club" days ..LOL I am being sincere..I like it..alot.. There is alot of nice people that hang out here..there food is tastey..and the outdoor beer garden is great! There is real ivy growing from wrigley field out there..how fun! Its nice to relax outside and have a cold one( and oh yeah..you can smoke!)and just people watch..I think everyone should check it out..wether its lunch or saturday night fun!

Meh!! Service was way shitty and it seams like most of the food came from a frezzer bag. Its a typical tourist place with no local flare or fare. I do not recommend.

Half the year I live in Lake G. This is my go to place on Wednesday for a burger ($3) and a retro beer. Super fantastic waitstaff! Building was a bank. Reinvented as bar. Cool for me. Outdoor beer garden in summer. Decent beer selection. This isn't fancy pants. It's a good solid local bar with TVs for the game. Tip: lots of parking in back.

Nothing special about this place. Decent fish fry, not so decent sweet potato fries (oily and too crispy). Out waitress was nice, however, it seemed she was trying to suggest foods that would up-charge our bill. For example, my friend got the shock top beer on draft. She suggested adding caramel apple vodka or apple brandy. I understood this was a combo drink, a little of each or perhaps a shot on the side, like a car bomb. The drink came and was just the size of a regular beer. She charged $4.50 for that and another $4.50 for the vodka in it! It was not good and she didn't acknowledge that my friend never drank it. Given the available options for restaurants around, if definitely recommend Sprecher or Hogs and Kisses before this.

If you're the kind of person who needs fast service, four star meals and a floor so clean you could lick, than Champs is more than likely not for you. The place is meant for a fun, relaxed getaway from the busy lifestyle of surrounding cities and it does a fantastic job of providing that atmosphere. Filled with televisions, sporting memorabilia and good people, Champs is quite the local watering hole for many. The food is great, especially after a long day of shopping or relaxing on the beach and it is rare to ever have an empty glass of beer. They have delicious burgers, wings and fries along with some great domestic beers that I was more than happy to consume. During the day, it's a family-friendly place to eat and the prices are not too expensive for such a touristy area. Whenever a big game is on, you can count on many friendly faces screaming at televisions and sipping back a cold one. I would highly recommend this joint to anyone who doesn't need fancy food or decor in order to have a good time.

Place is big... almost too wide open for my taste. It's a sports bar, so they have good bar food... However, the menu is extending to those who bring along their classy wives/husbands or for those business folk who are looking to bring clients to cheer on their teams. If you don't mind a high caloric intake, eat up! The menu is designed for your desire.

Great spot for a weekend away from Chicago! A bunch of girlfriends and I went for a long Memorial Day weekend and hit up Champs on Friday night. The band was awesome, the drinks were VERY well priced and the food was great. Hit up this spot for some fun in Lake Geneva!

My wife and I stopped by Champs on a whim while walking through downtown Lake Geneva and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a sports bar through and through, there are tons of TVs and it was loud. Most of the tables seemed to be 'high tops.' They had a decent selection of beers and it was nice to see local craft beers on tap. I had the ham and potato soup and was very happy with my choice. My wife had the chili and she enjoyed hers as well. Despite being pleased with both soup and chili, easily the best part of our meal was the basket of Parmesan Garlic Fries. The fries were really crispy and coated in Parmesan cheese after being coated in garlic butter. I would have never thought to put that combo together but glad we tried them.

First of all, read the "Filterted Reviews". That's where Yelp puts all the negative reviews. This is not family friendly place. We had a group of 10 with two young children. The two kids really wanted Jimmy Johns (across the street). So we bought them their $5.00 sandwich and went into Champs. The eight adults ordered cocktails and we were looking at the menu when this smelly, fat, unshavened guy walks up and starts yelling (at our kids) about the sandwiches. Turns out he was the owner. Even though we were about to spend several hundred dollars he was so rude we left. Who yells at kids? He's lucky I was in a good mood. I felt relly bad for the waitress. She was out a $40 - $50 tip. This is a place for local drunks to hang out. Try Hogs and Kisses. We were welcomed with open arms ... with our two $5.00 sandwiches.

Eesh. TVs everywhere. Terrible acoustics. I had to shout at the person sitting next to me. Huge menu with every kind of bar food you can think of. The food is exactly as you imagine.

Nice court yard with a bar. I had the mini corn dogs they were good. Service was really fast.

So the first time i have been to Lake Geneva we spent the whole entire day on the lake. And spent about the entire evening sleeping because we had so much fun on the water. But this time we decided to check out what Lake Geneva had to offer. Being new to the area i though it was funny when people would talk about how Illinois residents overrun Wisconsin in the summer. Now i see why... I think almost everyone i met at Champs was from Illinois. It was a good scene and drinks were quite inexpensive... Compared to Chicago they were dirt cheap. This spot is a grill turned club at night. They throw the tables to the side and lay speakers in the corners. You get to meet a good mix of people from the city-escapers to the country girls. You may even run into a bachelorette party of two... Good times. They play a mix of pop music with some hip-hop. I left feeling like I was back in college. If your checking out Wisconsin and escaping the city life. Pass through Champs... Loud music, Good Drinks, live crowd!

We felt sick after eating here. It's dirty and gross. I like my share of dive bars but sports bars don't have to be disgusting. Fried green beans tasted burnt and sick. Coconut shrimp and corn dogs were alright. Mac and cheese bites were siiiiick. Service was aloof and slow. No one should have an empty beer for fifteen minutes at a sports bar. skip it. You're not missing anything.

I can't really speak to the inside of this place (well, I can a little--more on that to come) because we spent the entire time in the beer garden. I was hoping that would alleviate some of the disgusting cigarette smell that filled the inside bar area but no such luck--it was just as bad outside. Come on already, Wisconsin, get with the program and do away with smoking bars! Anyway, the beer garden was totally packed (it was a Friday night) so it took a while to get service at the bar. But the drinks were good and incredibly cheap. There were six in our party and we all ordered a cocktail for the whopping price of $24--can't beat it. And once we got a server to wait on our table, she was really good and came around often enough. Moving back inside... the bathroom was beyond disgusting. Of the three women's stalls, one was filled with a drunk girl yakking, one had a toilet that was literally overflowing and one was actually open for use--if you dared. Okay, it's a bar--I get it. But honestly, that bathroom was beyond repulsive. Reminded me of being back in my college days...

Dive. You'll likely not want to touch anything. Very college-like in terms of what flies for cleanliness and service. Cans of beer abound as do plumes of cheap cigarette smoke (you can still smoke in bars here).

Just like all bar food. Good place to meet with friends and watch the game while playing some pool.

Went here while attending a conference at the resort. I thought the food, although bar food menu, was pretty decent. Everything was seasoned well and cooked the way it should. Great weekday specials, nice atmosphere, really good attentive service. I would definitively stop by here again next time I visit Lake Geneva.

  • Kim P.

Ok to catch a game, but could find a better spot. We stopped on Sunday- The bartenders were less than friendly and inattentive. Had to wait for the Bathrooms (only 2 stalls... Seriously). Stop on a nice day, the do have a nice beer garden.

  • Bridget B.

The epitome of a bar. Food is fine. Everything is fried. I've always loved the basketball net set up along the side. Go there to drink and watch a game, or if you're in to the super hoppin night life that Lake Geneva has to offer, it turns into a weird sports bar club at night. Couldn't really figure that out, but it's a fun enough bar.

i popped in this spot for lunch on a cold friday morning, lucky for me it was fish fry friday!! How lucky can one get? they give you a choice of many delicious species of mine and i went with the cod..i was served three pieces and had a hard time finishing they were so large. didnt really touch the fries. food and service was terrific!

A pleasant experience. My wife and I stopped at Champs to eat during the Badgers Elite 8 NCAA basketball game. She had the pot roast sandwich and I ordered the prime rib burger. The pot roast was tender and delicious. It also came with horseradish sauce which my wife loves. She was in heaven with every bite. My burger was cooked to perfection at medium rare. The bacon was perfectly crispy. It was one of the most flavorful burgers I've ever had. Even though the bar was packed with people because of the basketball, our waitress was still very attentive. She checked on us at least three different times and refilled my soda for me multiple times. I even noticed her take the time to help another couple find a better table to see the game. The only downside that I noticed was the lack of high-definition televisions. I am looking forward to my next visit. We live about 45 minutes away and I'm thinking the burger would be worth the drive.

I am only rating for atmosphere as we did not eat here. We came for Sunday Funday!!! Great patio, wait staff, drinks, bloody was good with a beef stick straw. Nice relaxing time at Champs!!!

I had a horrible, seemingly racist experience here. I am very disturbed and disappointed by the comments hurled at me. Please beware of the customer service provided by the general manager if you have a concern. I am black, and my white colleagues were disturbed by the way the general manager spoke to me. This is a place that is not worthy of anyone's patronage. It's sad that places like this still exist.

    (1)
  • Darko S.

Worst experience in a long time. The general manager had extreme racist comments and was flat out wrong about taking a sales tax exemption form from illinois! I would not recommend this place even if it was the last place to eat on earth.

Bartender was completely indifferent to me. I stood there while she buzzed by failing to recognize me standing there. Waitress disappeared when we were looking for her - then came by like a pesky fly repeatedly interrupting our conversation to see how we were doing. Ugh! Not a great value. Not a great attitude. Pass on this cold beer and shot joint.

I have never written a review on yelp before but after what I experienced last night at Champs I felt like I needed to... First- they were really busy. I bartended throughout college so I get it. But communication is the key. A group of girls standing next to me were trying to order drinks for over 15 minutes. When the bartender finally came over after doing 2 shots with a couple guys the girls expressed how unhappy they were. The bartender slammed her hand on the counter and yelled.. "Well tell me what the f*** you want.. You have my attention now." Then turned around looked at another bartender and says "these girls are c****" After sitting at the bar and watching these two (not old but not young) bartenders behave like this to multiple people I decided it was time to leave. I asked to close out my tab and give her my name. She proceeded to hand me a receipt to sign. I glanced down at it and it read MasterCard. Knowing I don't have a MasterCard I called her over (after another 15 min of waiting) and explained that wasn't my tab. She replied with "ummm well that's the name you gave me." I told her again that I don't have a MasterCard and wrote down my name. She walks away and yells, "I don't have f****** time for this." She then closes out another tab and tells me my card declined. I pull out my card knowing very well that it didn't and say please match to this card. She says, "you don't have to be a smart a** with my b****!" At that point I just wanted to close out and leave. She FINALLY found the right tab. This was the first time I have not tipped a bartender. I have never experienced this bad of service. Needless to say, I will never be back to this establishment.

Decent bar but too many moths. Get less moths or kill the moths idk I just don't like moth in my beer. Great time and vibes but if you are afraid of moths, avoid at all costs.

  • Tim R.

I will start off by saying he food here is ok & the atmosphere is fun, especially outdoors on the back patio. However, the waitstaff to no fault of our own was extremely rude. Allow me to explain. After we sat down we immediately got static from our server for whatever unknown reason even before the hullabaloo at the end of our so-called "dining experience". Admittedly, we did not inform them straightaway that we needed separate checks for our group (of 8) ahead of time, however the manager explained to us in nearly the most belligerent way possible that it is not their policy to issue separate checks. Therefore, even though we did not inform them ahead of time the issue would have been moot anyway. Which party was right or wrong here is actually irrelevant, but the collective Champs staff/management/ownership is too stubborn to concede that. However, the management thinks they are right instead of their real boss the customer. But karma typically returns back to one in one way or another, and this Yelp review is that agent.

We ventured over here yeah, I think pretty much every night we were here. It helped that it was pretty well the only bar in town that stayed open late that wasn't terrifying. Late as in like normal hours, fyi, not head-scratchingly early Lake Geneva hours. The crowd changed nightly and one night the place was filled with stupid drunk obnoxious grabby aggressive dudes and bimbettes while one night it was chill and another night a strange vibe. Mostly chill overall which is what kept us coming back. That and the late hours. And the nice bartenders. And the size of the place allowed us to sit away from hot messes. We never ventured out to the patio but it appeared there was a bar back there too. Ladies potty has that fancy Dyson hand dryer in it. Fancy. Tv's in every nook and cranny playing something sports related. Only food we ate here were mozzarella sticks which were good, gooey, plentiful, and fried. Sauce was cold, like refrigerated, which was odd but we got over it. Anywhooos, drinks were reasonably priced, bartenders pleasant, it's a large space. Reminded us of a less crowded, less d'baggy, and more relaxed Wrigleyville/Lakeview bar back home. If you're from Chicago, that will give you an indication. We'd go back.

Champs is the hot late night spot of Lake Geneva! Life size pop a shot outside, and inside make champs lively and upbeat. The regular crazy locals are known to take over champs and make it an interesting time with the occasional fight. Not my first choice for a bar, but cheap drinks and crazy locals makes for a good time. FYI don't bring a girl there on first date.... "She ain't calling me back!"

  • Alexandra S.

Oh, Champs On weekend nights, especially during the high season, you're going to get a mixed crowd: Townies, bachelorette parties, city-slickers "slumming" it for the night. This crazy mix of people and bad music is basically what going out in Lake Geneva is all about. And the night starts here, my friends.

    (3)
  • John K.

3:30pm the place half full yet waiting 30 min to get someone to ask if we wanted drinks. We have been sitting the whole time. We have the time and just wanted to see how long they would let us sit. We have two tables total 8 people. Worst service I have seen. Word to the wise other places in town to eat. Grrrrrr

The staff weren't that welcoming. The food was decent. However, they served their food in wooden baskets that aren't washed.

NOT a fan of the Bloody Mary - the "meat stick"/straw was stale and scary and the pickles were on the verge of rancid. Sorry LG, strike one.

Went here after everyone ranted and raved about Champs. My friend and I ordered drinks in their beer garden and was charged $10 for a canned beer and mixed drink. We went inside and after ordering two more drinks, my friend asked the waitress for a drink suggestion for me since I'm not a beer drinker. I took a sip of a drink she had brought me made with well vodka, and it tasted horrible. My friend tried it and agreed. After I hailed down the waitress I asked for my original order she said she couldn't give me a new drink. My friend asked to speak to the manager (it was his son), and the waitress came back and said he said no. My friend approached the manager's son and he said too bad, that's not my problem and walked away. After my friend approached him again and because she was getting confrontational he kicked us out of the bar. The bouncer came over and was very nice and even agreed with us, but we wanted to leave anyway after this experience.

I have eaten at Champs many times over the last few years and I have always had great experiences till yesterday. The service was extremely slow and not once after our food arriving at the table did our waitress come see how we were doing. The fish sandwich I had was extremely over fried and our fry's were terrible. The bartender does not know how to make Mai Tia's but after a complaint when the check arrived it was removed from the bill. I will not base my entire opinion from this one visit but I must say it was very disappointing.

    (2)
  • Kelley P.

Bad service and blah food. We ate in the beer garden and the service was horrible. The bartender said they were know for burgers so I ordered one. It was dry and flavorless. Pretty sure it was a pre made frozen burger. Disappointed!!

  • Valerie R.

Great fun place for the younger crowd. Went on a Saturday night and it was Packed!!!! Prices were good. Typical younger adult bar. I felt a little out of place. Maybe 20 years ago. Lunch during the week is much quieter and good for my under 21 kids!

  • Jinah Y.

We had a large group of 9 with us for dinner on Friday night so we pushed together a few tables in the upstairs section. Our waitress was decent but we often wondered where she was when we were ready to order more drinks. The menu is pretty basic and what you would expect of a sports bar (except more expensive since many of the items do not come with sides). I had the chicken tenders which tasted fine at the time... until an hour later when I realized they were not sitting well with me. They did not taste as good coming back up. To make matters worse, there's a tiny 2 stall women's room with a line of people all night... The outdoor patio is the only thing saving this from a 1 star review.

Fun little dive sports bar. Great crowd in the summer. Friendly staff.

Outdoor beer garden is a must. Solid sports bar with typical pub food. Bathrooms are rough. Just so happened that Ditka was there this past weekend and I got his autograph.Sweet!

This was our first visit to Lake Geneva and we decided to check out this sports bar. It was okay. The waitress was nice, and the food was pretty good. The Parmesan Garlic fries were awesome! Overall no complaints, but I wasn't wowed (other than the fries) either.

  • Carson G.

Great food for a bar. It's one of the best places to eat in downtown and I've never been let down by the food or the service. There's even a great basketball hoop inside and outside for entertainment. It's a clean bar and a great place to go

    (5)
  • Heather H.

I have to say that I usually love this place and brag about the bloody Mary's I get after we visit the Elkhorn flea market. It has become tradition. Unfortunately today, we have experienced the most unhappy and rude bartender ever. We felt like an inconvenience to her and we were appalled by her language and how inattentive she was. We were not even greeted. Such a disappointment to a high energy, exciting day we had hoped for. Would have to say "energy vampire" sucked all my excitement for our traditional stop.

Like the setting here. Food is ok.

    (4)
  • Elise K.

The Good: The food is good and specials are priced nicely. Heck, even the non-specials are a good price! You generally can't go wrong with anything served in a basket here. Try the sweet potato fries or the summer Friday fish fry! The Bad: I don't like their coleslaw very much. I think they could leave it out of the baskets and no one would miss it. It's also pretty cold in the winter (lack of proper heating) and pretty cold in the summer (over air-conditioned). The Ugly: The food is pretty greasy. If your stomach and intestines aren't used to this much grease, you WILL PAY FOR IT LATER!!!!!
